Barcelona has long been one of the most cultured cities in Europe. It’s not surprising then that the city plays host to a wide selection of interesting and intellectually gratifying museums.

The Picasso Museum
Pablo Picasso is undoubtedly one of the most famous influences on 20th century art, the Spanish painter and sculptor was one of the pioneers of the cubism movement. The museum in Barcelona is dedicated to his work and a must see for anyone who is a keen admirer. Displaying many of his works that span his distinguished career, the museum shows visitors Picasso’s conceptual and artistic development. It also has a particularly large selection from the blue period of his early work. Admission is around 5€, but is free on the first Sunday of every month.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona
With an admirable reputation as one of the largest art museums in Spain, the National Art Museum of Catalonia has a vast array of exhibits that display the history of art home and abroad. Housing a collection of fine Romanesque paintings dating back to the 11th century, the museum promotes indigenous art encompassing Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art. The museum was created in 1990, when the Catalonian Museum Law reunited the collections of the former Museu d'Art de Catalunya and the Museu d'Art Modern.

The Maritime Museum of Barcelona
