  Introduction of Barcelona

Barcelona is a city with a long and brutal history. Littered with beautiful architecture and historical monuments, it’s also known for being the Capital of Catalunya. Bustling and vibrant, the city is situated on the coast between the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and has excellent sea links to the rest of Europe.

Considered to be the cultural centre of Spain, Barcelona is a hive of tourist activities and attractions, with everything from Bull fights to Aquariums. Officially it is the most visited city in Spain and getting there has never been easier (or cheaper) with the rise in economy flights. Barcelona offers easy access to the adjacent beaches along the coast. It’s also within easy reach of Catalonia's main wine producing region and is a short drive away from the Andorran Ski resort.

They city itself is divided into a number of different districts, all possessing their own distinct charms and characteristics. The Barri Gotic area is the historic quarter of the city and is home to the spectacular Cathedral de la Santa Creu and a host of Roman remains and gothic architecture. The Olympic village is a fashionable cosmopolitan hub with an array of modern entertainment and nightlife. And finally, the area known as Las Ramblas is an area packed with outdoor cafés, market stalls and performance artists.

Being the second largest city in Spain, navigating your way through Barcelona is surprisingly easy. This is due, in no small part to the excellent public transport infrastructure. Traversing from one point in the city to another can be done by metro, bus and taxi, all for a reasonable price.

Barcelona is a city that really does have it all; historical significance, fabulous architecture, great nightlife, sumptuous food, fabulous shopping and a nice sandy beach to relax on.
